You can start writing a song from a titel, a sentence, a word or a theme. I can’t stress enough how there’s no right and wrong where you begin your path of writing. You may not be aware of what works for you in the beginning and that’s something you’ll figure out. Maybe you like to start from a decided and well thought out theme. Or maybe you just need a few words to kick start that writing process.

Picking a theme to the song may not seem too hard right? It don’t have to be! Let’s start with thinking of themes or concepts. What themes are out there, what are we used to hear, what do we sing about? I bet you will think of relationships, heartbreak, break-ups, love songs, maybe a few party themed songs as well. You can write about what ever you feel like. What inspires you? What do you wanna write about? What do you relate to?
Can you relate?

Storyline - where are we
and where are we going?

Sometimes when we pick a theme, we might find ourself in a big ocean of opportunities, that’s good right? It can be tricky to kind of get to the core of what we really wanna say so in that case we might wanna narrow it down to make it more specific to avoid getting lost at sea, and miss the point of our story. When picking a theme, try to really think of what’s important to say, narrow it down, think of it like a movie or even a movie scene. This is also where your senses are a much needed factor to use in your writing and we’re getting there later on!

  • Can you relate?

  • Narrow it down

  • What’s the peak?

  • What’s the core of the story?

  • Paint with details

  • Storyline - where are we
and where are we going?
