OBJECT WRITING / WHERE

OBJECT WRITING / WHERE

Now the object is ”where” a place, it can be a city, a specific part of the town, it can be something moving lika a bus or a car, it can be somewhere warm, a forest, the ocean, up on a mountain. You get it, we paint our story around a ”where” a place. We wanna describe what’s around us, use references from the scenery that’s in the surroundings. A big city can be described with words like loud, pavement, neon signs, people, taxi, skyscrapers, suits, rush hour and so on.

  • What does the place look like?

  • Is the place moving or staying still?

  • What can you see around, over, under or beyond your chosen place?

  • What’s important about this place?

  • What happens at this place?

  • What can you hear, see, feel, smell, taste?

  • What does this place mean to you or somebody else?

MANHATTAN
(Sara Bareilles)

”You can have Manhattan, I know it's for the best

I'll gather up the avenues and leave them on your doorstep

And I'll tip toe away, so you won't have to say you heard me leave

You can have Manhattan, I know it's what you want

The bustle and the buildings, the weather in the fall

And I'll bow out of place, to save you some space

For somebody new.”

EXERCISE / OBJECT WRITING / WHERE
Pick a place from the list or come up with one, and give yourself 2-5 minutes to write freely using your senses. Try to describe and build a story around the place ”where”.

In a car
Under a streetlamp
Waiting room
Train station
Old house
By the ocean
Office

A small town
A busy street
By the kitchen table
In a dream
The town you grew up in
School
Under the moonlight
