OBJECT WRITING / WHAT

OBJECT WRITING / WHAT
The ”what” is the object here, it can be a thing something you own or something you miss, but it’s not a person, it’s an object. To start with you can try to describe it with your senses and think about a story around the object of your choice. This is something you can practice, isolate your writing and write about one object at the time, use your senes, make up a story and think of a storyline that could follow.

  • What do the object look like?

  • Where is this object?

  • What does this object mean to you or to somebody else?

  • Is there a history around this object? What can you tell about that?

  • Is it something hidden? Is there any secrets?

  • In there any kind of conflict?

  • Is this object forgotten or does anybody miss this object?

THE LIGHTHOUSE TALE

(Adam McKenzie, Chris Thile)

"I am a lighthouse, worn by the weather and the waves.

I keep my lamp lit, to warn the sailors on their way.

I'll tell a story, paint you a picture from my past.

I was so happy, but joy in this life seldom lasts.

I had a keeper, he helped me warn the ships at sea.

We had grown closer, 'till his joy meant everything to me.”

THE CAPE
(Guy Clark, Susanna Clark, Jim Janosky)

”Eight years old with a floursack cape tied all around his neck

He climbed up on the garage figurin' what the heck

He screwed his courage up so tight the whole thing came unwound
He got a runnin' start and bless his heart, he headed for the ground
He's one of those who knows that life Is just a leap of faith
Spread your arms and hold your breath, always trust your cape”
